Cecilia Judge
Ordinary Member - Branch Committee of Management
I’m a social worker and union delegate. I believe that healthcare is a fundamental human right, and that quality healthcare is only possible if healthcare workers are appropriately resourced and remunerated.
I am a lifelong union member. Prior to working in public health, I worked in the community sector and was part of the Equal Pay campaign and the Chair of the ASU Metro Delegates Committee.
More recently, I was part of the group of VAHPA members who fought for a Members’ Special General Meeting to ensure that our union leadership were accountable to membership, rather than them forcing through an undemocratic merger with HACSU.
In addition to my union activism, I’ve been a left-wing activist for over 20 years as a member of both Socialist Alternative and Victorian Socialists. I was part of the campaign to decriminalise abortion in Victoria, as well as participating in campaigns for refugees rights, First Nation rights, Equal Marriage and Palestine.
I’m excited to be part of the VAHPA Pulse ticket because I believe that rebuilding trade unions is central to improving the pay, conditions and dignity of ordinary people, and that starts with an active and involved membership and an open and accountable leadership. Trade Unions have a responsibility to fight for workers' pay and conditions, and also take a stand against all forms of discrimination and inequity in our communities.
