Marni Jackson

Candidate for President

I’m a physiotherapist based in Gippsland who has returned to public health after many years working in the disability and education sectors.

Like many AHPs in regional hospitals, I’m responsible for the day to day running of multiple programs throughout the week and understand the challenges and joys of working in a regional health service in a relatively small, but rapidly growing - and ageing community. Chronic staffing shortages; under-resourced hospitals; access barriers to ongoing education and career development, and lack of respect for AHPs are ongoing issues in the regions and need to be addressed with union power.

I’m an active delegate and have been a committed union member for over a decade, including several years of service on VAHPA’s Branch Committee of Management and HSU National Council. I strongly believe in equity of access to quality healthcare and recognise the crucial role of an active VAHPA membership in improving pay and conditions of AHPs in the public health sector, which is essential to protecting this service for all in our community. I’m also passionate about protecting access to NDIS services for those who need them.

I firmly believe that unions should be led by members, for members, and am proud to be working toward that as a member of VAHPA Pulse.
