Lil Muir
Candidate for Assistant Secretary
My name is Elizabeth Muir, though most people know me as Lil. I am a Radiation Therapist, I love what I do and where I work, and very proud to say I am in my 25th year working at Peter MacCallum Cancer centre.
Over that time, I have seen firsthand the challenges our members face — increasing workloads, the need for fair pay, safe conditions, and genuine respect for the work we do. These experiences are what led me to step up as a union delegate, a role I have held for approximately 15 years.
Like many, I started out simply as a point of communication, learning as I went. I have to admit I have only really become engaged and active in the past four years since the last EA outcomes left me extremely disappointed and frustrated - I misunderstood that the union “as an office” is what the union is rather than the union is “its members”. I have used the energy created from this frustration to develop a deeper understanding of what a union can truly be when members are engaged, informed, and united. It has been incredibly rewarding to witness what we can achieve when we work as a genuinely member-driven collective.
I have also seen many changes within the union over the past 2 decades- mostly for better but am a big advocate for change when it is required and I strongly believe now is that time .
I am passionate about building a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive union that delivers meaningful results. That means standing up for better conditions, supporting our colleagues, and ensuring every member feels heard and represented.
Running as part of this ticket, I am committed to a collaborative, member-led future — one where we organise effectively, act collectively, and achieve lasting improvements for all Allied Health professionals represented by our union.
