Cass Gorton

Candidate for National Council

I’m running for the HSU National Council because I believe allied health professionals deserve a stronger voice, greater recognition, and real support in our workplaces and across our health system.

As a medical librarian and VAHPA delegate at Monash Health, I work closely with allied health professionals every day. I see firsthand the expertise, compassion, and innovation allied health staff bring to patient care. I also see the challenges many face with workload pressures, limited recognition, and a lack of representation in decision-making. Many seek solace and support in our libraries.

As someone from a smaller allied health profession, I also understand how easy it can be for some professions to be overlooked in larger conversations. I want to see broader representation of all allied health professions within the National Council, so that a wider range of voices, experiences, and perspectives are included in decisions that affect our workforce.

Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about supporting access to evidence, education, research support, and knowledge sharing. I strongly believe decisions that affect healthcare workers should be evidence-based, transparent, and informed by the experiences of the people doing the work every day.

I want to help build a union that genuinely supports allied health professionals at every stage of their career. I believe strong unions are built by listening to members, supporting delegates, and creating opportunities for people to lead and advocate for meaningful change.

I want to elevate allied health voices nationally and ensure our professions are recognised as a critical part of a strong, sustainable, evidence-based, and patient-centred healthcare system.
